Here Aware began with a simple habit: going slowly and paying attention.
For more than fifteen years, I've designed learning experiences and helped people make complex ideas feel approachable. My background spans Learning & Development, Customer Success, and Knowledge Operations, where I've built learning programmes, educational resources, and communities centred around curiosity and growth.
Outside of work, you'll usually find me birdwatching, recording nature sounds, sketching in a park, or exploring Barcelona's natural spaces.
I'm also a self-published author of illustrated nature journals, currently completing a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification, and a Reiki practitioner.
I believe learning is more enjoyable when we're curious together. It all starts with being here, aware.
Hi, I’m Joyce.
Our Story
Here Aware began before growing the community.
In 2025, while practising Reiki, I found myself spending more and more time outdoors. Some of my earliest sessions took place in nature, and I became fascinated by how simply being outside could help people slow down, notice more, and reconnect with themselves.
In January 2026, I turned that idea into a community by launching a Meetup group centred around mindfulness walks and social birdwatching in Barcelona. It quickly became a welcoming space for people to explore nature together.
A few months later, in May 2026, I had to pause the community to focus on my own health.
During that time, birdwatching became an important part of my recovery. I also rediscovered something else that helped me just as much: art.
When I launched my nature journal, I brought along coloured pencils, watercolours, and paper for everyone to use. As people sat together drawing, colouring, and talking, I noticed something special. Conversation slowed. People relaxed. Strangers became friends. The creative process gave everyone permission to simply be present together.
Today, Here Aware Mindfulness and Reiki and Birdsong Experiences are merged together to form the Here Aware Nature Club.
Here Aware Nature Club brings together the two practices that have meant the most to me: birdwatching and art.
Not because you need to become an expert in either, but because both invite us to pay closer attention to the world around us, and to one another.
Whether you bring binoculars, a sketchbook, or both, you're welcome here.
Our Values
🐦 Observe
Birdwatching teaches us to slow down, look closely, and appreciate the wildlife around us.
🎨 Create
Art helps us notice details we might otherwise miss and gives us another way to connect with nature.
🤝 Learn Together
Here Aware is built on curiosity, not expertise. Whether it's your first bird or your first sketch, everyone is welcome to learn alongside one another.
