Birdsong Mindfulness

Slow Listening in Nature

Birdsong Mindfulness invites you to step out of autopilot and into the present moment by slowing your pace and opening your senses.

These walks are rooted in mindful awareness, a form of practice where attention gently rests on the sounds around you,

the rhythm of your steps, and the simple experience of being here now.

What is Birdsong Mindfulness?

Birdsong Mindfulness combines mindful walking: a practice of attentive, present-moment walking, with open listening to birdsong, environmental sounds, and the rhythms of your own breath and body.

  • Rather than focusing on steps, distance, performance, or identifying every bird species, this practice invites you to notice how you’re moving, breathing, and hearing in the here and now. Each sound, shift in pace, or breath becomes an opportunity to return to awareness instead of distraction.

You don’t need meditation experience or knowledge about birds. Curiosity and a willingness to slow down are enough.

  • Walking offers a gentle way into mindfulness through movement, making it accessible for people who find stillness challenging.

Birdsong and natural sounds provide an ever-changing, living anchor for attention. They invite listening without effort, helping awareness settle naturally into the present moment. There’s nothing to create or imagine. The environment is already doing the work.

Together, walking and listening support a quality of attention that is relaxed, embodied, and grounded.

    • A slow, gentle pace. This is not a fitness walk or a hiking activity.

    • Short, simple guidance offered at the beginning and at intervals

    • Long stretches of shared silence

    • Natural sounds, breath, and body sensations used as anchors for awareness

    • Space to walk at your own rhythm, pausing when needed

There’s no “right” way to experience the walk. You’re welcome to notice whatever arises: sounds, sensations, thoughts, or simply the act of walking.

  • Birdsong Mindfulness Walks are slow, mostly silent meditation walks guided by birdsong, breath, and gentle presence 🌿

The pace is intentionally unhurried, allowing natural sounds and movement to become anchors for mindfulness.

I currently host Mindfulness Walks via Meetup every Sunday. You’re warmly invited to join when it feels supportive.

  • No. This is a slow, mindful meditation walk. The pace is intentionally much slower than a normal walk. This is not about steps, speed, or distance — it’s about presence.

  • Not exactly. We use birdsong and natural sounds as anchors for mindfulness, not binoculars or checklists.

That said, I love birds and I’m always happy to chat after the walk about birds we noticed by sight or sound. I’m also planning a separate gathering for amateur birdwatching.

  • Not at all. These walks are beginner-friendly.

You don’t need to meditate, know anything about mindfulness, or “do it right.” Just come as you are.

  • Mostly, yes, but not rigidly so.

There will be light guidance at times, and moments of shared stillness. Silence is an invitation, not a rule.

  • You’re always welcome to walk at your own pace.

The group naturally stretches and re-gathers, and there’s no pressure to keep up or slow down for anyone else

  • I hold a gentle Reiki presence throughout the walk.

For larger groups, individual Reiki sessions are not offered during the walk.

However, you’re welcome to request a short 5-minute Reiki session before or after the walk (always by consent).

  • Comfortable walking shoes, water, and weather-appropriate clothing. No mats or special equipment needed.

  • If you arrive during the grounding or while we’re already walking, you’re welcome to join quietly.

If possible, please text me beforehand so I can share a live location pin. My phone number is on the Meetup description and the email reminders.

  • Light rain can be part of the experience, and we’ll choose routes with mostly concrete paths.

If there’s heavy rain, strong wind, or storm alerts, the walk will be cancelled for safety reasons.

  • Yes. All ages and genders are welcome, as long as you’re comfortable walking slowly for about an hour.

  • Yes. The walks are currently offered for free as my way of giving back.

Donations are welcome but never expected.

  • Yes — I’m open to this and I genuinely welcome it 🌿

If you’re a mindfulness teacher in training or a qualified mindfulness teacher and feel aligned with the pace and spirit of these walks, you’re invited to reach out. I’m happy to explore co-leading or occasionally offering the space for you to guide a walk.

We’ll have a brief conversation beforehand to make sure expectations, structure, and group safety are clear, and that the experience remains slow, spacious, and accessible for everyone.
