Birdsong Mindfulness Walks
Slow Listening in Nature
Birdsong Mindfulness invites you to step out of autopilot and into the present moment by slowing your pace and opening your senses.
These walks are rooted in mindful awareness, a form of practice where attention gently rests on the sounds around you, the rhythm of your steps, and the simple experience of being here now.
What is a Birdsong Mindfulness Walk?
Birdsong walks began with a simple discovery: the quality of attention needed to find a bird in a tree: still, listening, unhurried, is almost identical to the quality of attention cultivated in meditation. You slow down. You look up. Suddenly the world has more in it than you noticed before.
Birdsong walks are a form of mindfulness practice guided by listening. By slowing down and paying attention to birds and natural soundscapes, participants learn to cultivate attention, curiosity, and presence. No birdwatching experience is required; only a willingness to slow down and notice. These walks are an invitation to practice that kind of attention, together, in the parks of Barcelona.
-
Rather than focusing on steps, distance, performance, or identifying every bird species, this practice invites you to notice how you’re moving, breathing, and hearing in the here and now. Each sound, shift in pace, or breath becomes an opportunity to return to awareness instead of distraction.
You don’t need meditation experience or knowledge about birds. Curiosity and a willingness to slow down are enough.
-
Walking offers a gentle way into mindfulness through movement, making it accessible for people who find stillness challenging.
Birdsong and natural sounds provide an ever-changing, living anchor for attention. They invite listening without effort, helping awareness settle naturally into the present moment. There’s nothing to create or imagine. The environment is already doing the work.
Together, walking and listening support a quality of attention that is relaxed, embodied, and grounded.
-
A slow, gentle pace — this is not a fitness walk or a hiking activity.
Short, simple guidance offered at the beginning and at natural intervals
Long stretches of shared silence
Birdsong, breath, and body sensations used as anchors for awareness
Space to walk at your own rhythm, pausing whenever you need to
There's no "right" way to experience the walk. You're welcome to notice whatever arises — sounds, sensations, thoughts, or simply the act of moving through a place. The birds are here. So are you.
-
Birdsong Mindfulness Walks take place on Sundays via Meetup. They are free to join, with an optional donation suggested at the end to support the cost of organising.

🌿 Birdsong Mindfulness Walks - Frequently Asked Questions
Here Aware offers two kinds of outdoor experiences: Birdsong Walks, which are slow, mostly silent mindfulness practices guided by sound and breath; and Social Birdwatching, which are community birdwatching outings focused on observation, curiosity, and learning to identify birds together. Both move slowly — but for different reasons.
-
Here Aware offers two kinds of outdoor experiences.
Birdsong Walks are slow, mostly silent mindfulness practices guided by breath, listening, and presence in nature.
Social Birdwatching is a relaxed community walk focused on observing birds, learning how to identify them, and sharing curiosity together.
Both move slowly — but for different reasons.
-
Neither. Both Birdsong Walks and Social Birdwatching events move slowly — Birdsong Walks because stillness supports mindfulness, and Social Birdwatching because birds require patience and quiet observation. Comfortable shoes are all you need.
-
It depends on the event. Birdsong Walks use birdsong as an anchor for mindfulness — the focus is on presence and listening, not identification. Social Birdwatching events are amateur birdwatching outings where we do look for and identify birds together, share field guides, and enjoy the company of other curious observers. Both are beginner-friendly.
-
Not at all.
The walks are designed for beginners and curious people alike. Gentle guidance will be offered along the way — all you need is a willingness to slow down and listen.
-
It depends on the type of walk.
Birdsong Mindfulness Walks are mostly silent, as they are guided meditation walks focused on listening, breath, and presence in nature. There will be light guidance at times and moments of shared stillness. Silence is an invitation — not a rule.
Social Birdwatching Walks are relaxed and conversational. We will talk, share observations, and learn together. At times we may lower our voices or pause quietly so we don’t spook the birds.
-
You’re always welcome to walk at your own pace.
The group naturally stretches and re-gathers, and there’s no pressure to keep up or slow down for anyone else
-
Comfortable walking shoes, water, and weather-appropriate clothing for both of the walks.
For Social Birdwatching walks: If you have binoculars or a bird guide, you’re welcome to bring them — but they’re not required.
-
The easiest way to stay in the loop is to join the Here Aware WhatsApp group, where upcoming walks, Social Birdwatching events, and other announcements are shared first.
You can also follow along on Meetup and Instagram, or check back here for the latest events.
-
We begin together at the scheduled time to settle into the practice.
If you arrive late, you’re welcome to quietly join when you find the group, but it may take a few minutes to locate us.
If possible, please text me via Whatsapp at least more than 30 minutes before the event so I can share a live location pin. My phone number is on the Meetup description and the email reminders.
-
Light rain can be part of the experience, and we’ll choose routes with mostly concrete paths.
If there’s heavy rain, strong wind, or storm alerts, the walk will be cancelled for safety reasons.
-
Yes. All ages and genders are welcome, as long as you’re comfortable walking slowly.
-
Most experiences are free to join, with a donation suggestion to help cover the cost of organising — things like location permits, materials, and time.
For Social Birdwatching events, field guides and other birdwatching tools are sometimes available to purchase on the day if you'd like to take something home. You're always welcome to come without contributing — participation is never conditional on payment.
-
Yes! I’m open to this and I genuinely welcome it 🌿
If you’re a mindfulness teacher in training or a qualified mindfulness teacher and feel aligned with the pace and spirit of these walks, you’re invited to reach out. I’m happy to explore co-leading or occasionally offering the space for you to guide a walk.
We’ll have a brief conversation beforehand to make sure expectations, structure, and group safety are clear, and that the experience remains slow, spacious, and accessible for everyone.
-
Yes — many participants come on their own. These walks are designed to be welcoming and comfortable whether you arrive alone or with friends.
-
Most walks last around 60–90 minutes, moving slowly with pauses for listening and reflection.
Birdwatching Field Trip at Espai Natural del Remolar Filipines
A proper birding adventure to one of Barcelona's most special wetland reserves.
On April 25th, we're heading south — to the Espai Natural del Remolar · Filipines in Viladecans, a quiet coastal wetland at the mouth of the Llobregat river and one of the most important bird habitats in the region. Think marshes, pine forest, beach, and a whole lot of birds. We will be walking — a lot. Come prepared, come curious, and come ready to slow down and look carefully. 🌿
📍 Meeting Point
Where we'll meet to take bus 46: In front of Vivari bakery Gran Via https://maps.app.goo.gl/BqL8GEMoh8jY1M8R7. If you have a car, you can just meet us there or see you around :)
📅 Saturday, 25 April · ⏰ 8:00am
We'll gather here before taking the public bus together to the reserve.
👉 Getting there:
We're going by public transport and on foot — the low-cost, no-fuss way. The 46 autobus will take us from Plaça d'Espanya towards Viladecans/the Airport.
🚗🚲 Prefer to drive or cycle?
You're very welcome to make your own way there and meet us at the reserve entrance instead.

The reserve includes three itineraries we may explore:
1. Pineda del Remolar — pine woodland trail
2. Maresma de les Filipines — marshland and wetland habitat
3. Platja del Remolar — coastal path to the beach
Opening hours on the day: 9:00–19:00 ✅
🥾 What to bring
Comfortable walking shoes (we mean it — lots of walking!)
Water and snacks
Binoculars if you have them (Please bring one - you'll need it as we'll go inside different bird hides and lots of flying birds around here!)
A field guide or Merlin app on your phone
Layers — it can be breezy near the coast
Sun protection
🐦 What might we see?
The Llobregat Delta is exceptional for waders, herons, egrets, ducks, and migratory passerines in spring. April is a wonderful time — migration is well underway. Expect surprises. 🌍
🤍 A few things to know
This is a free, community walk — just show up as you are
We walk at a relaxed pace, with plenty of stops to watch and listen
No birding experience needed — all levels welcome
You can leave whenever you want!
I'll try to guide if I can, but I don't know too much about the birds in this area, especially now that we have migratory birds passing by. I'll be birding with y'all! With the amount of gear I'll be bringing unfortunately I can't take any extra sets of binoculars so please make sure to get your own for this trip! 🙏🏼

Journal Launch: Mindfulness in Nature: Art & Writing Workshop 🌿
A slow, easy afternoon to create, connect, and just be.
I'm launching my independently-published, Field Journal: Mindfulness in Nature - Europe, a guided pocket journal for slow walkers, quiet watchers, and anyone who finds peace in the natural world, and I'd love to celebrate it with you!
How the afternoon flows:
1: Arrive, settle in & mingle
Help yourself to some sweet and savory snacks, bring your own drink (and snacks too), and get to know the people around you. No rush.
2: The journal: its story & how to use it
We'll explore the journal together — where it came from, what inspired it, and how to make it your own out in nature.
3: Colour, write & doodle
Choose a bird or nature colouring page and settle in. I'll share some gentle journaling prompts to write alongside your art — and doodle to your heart's content too.
4: Free time — yours to enjoy
Keep creating, chat with others, browse the journals, or simply sit and be. The rest of the afternoon is yours.
Colouring pages, pencils, and all materials are provided. A few sweet and savory snacks will be on the table — just bring your own drink of choice or snacks too if you need gluten-free snacks. Please bring your own mat too if you'd want to sit down or lie down.
Journals will be available to purchase on the day at the launch price, with a little something extra for everyone who takes one home. 🐦
Can't wait for the launch? Get your copy here and you can pick it up during the launch: https://www.hereaware.com/journal
It all starts with being here, aware.
Meeting point:

Closer to the date, I'll drop an exact pin where we'll be celebrating the launch! Hopefully we can get a spot near the small lake.
Mindful Eating Experience 🍽️🌿
What if eating could be a meditation?
Most of us eat on autopilot: scrolling, rushing, barely tasting. Mindful Eating is the practice of slowing down and bringing full, gentle attention to the experience of nourishment. The colours on the plate. The first smell. The texture. The warmth. The taste that arrives before you even expect it.
It sounds simple. And it is. But like all mindfulness practices, simple doesn't mean easy, and the rewards are quietly profound.
🌿 What is Mindful Eating?
Mindful Eating is a form of mindfulness meditation practice that invites us to:
Slow down and engage all the senses during a meal
Notice hunger, fullness, and the body's signals with curiosity rather than judgment
Bring presence and gratitude to the act of eating
Let food become an anchor for awareness just as birdsong does on our walks
This experience is also part of my requirements for my Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification which asks me to teach a wide range of mindfulness practices. What started with a Birdsong Walk has now grown into something more expansive. This is the next step. 🌿
🍽️ Where we're gathering
We'll be sharing this experience at a restaurant that is close to my heart: Kasarap Filipino Kitchen (@kasarapbcn).
I moved to Barcelona from the Philippines about 10 years ago, and every time I walk through the doors of Kasarap, something in me exhales. It feels like home. I imagine you know that feeling, the one you get when you find a little piece of your own country somewhere far from it.
I would love to share Filipino food with you. If you haven't tried it yet, I truly cannot wait for this to be your first time.
Filipino food is communal by nature — dishes are placed in the middle of the table and shared — which makes it a beautiful, fitting setting for a mindfulness practice rooted in connection.
They also have vegetarian options 🌱
You can explore their menu here: kasarap.com
📌 Important — please read before RSVPing
This experience is limited to 5 people only
You will need to order something from the restaurant during the session — we will all share the bill communally
A 10€ reservation fee is required to confirm your spot, which goes towards your food consumption on the day
Your spot is confirmed once the 10€ has been received
💳 Reserve your spot via Bizum: +34 722 692 960
(Please include your name in the payment reference)
⚠️ Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance or no-shows are non-refundable.
Food has always been a way of coming home — to culture, to memory, to the people around us. For two hours on a Sunday afternoon, let's also let it bring us home to ourselves. 🌿
